Project Description

The NSTF building is the National Satellite testing facility located on the Harwell science and technology campus, Didcot, which is owned by the STFC, Science and Technology Facilities Council. The building consists of clean rooms that will house various tests on satellites along with offices, plantrooms, changing rooms and store rooms. The building is over 7 floors from – 1 to upper roof level 5.  The clean rooms are full height reaching up to level 3 and the area of the building is approx.  5000sqm.

SPECIALIST SYSTEMS

The building consists of a hypoxic system as part of the EMC chamber clean room. The Hypoxic system will regulate the oxygen levels to approx. 14.1% to ensure no ignition of fire during the tests withing this room. Each clean space is supplied with compressed air and nitrogen gas for testing operations.

CLEANROOMS

– EMC Chamber – this will be used to target the satellite with electrical energy.

– TVAC Chamber – The TVAC chamber will replicate the vacuum in space testing the satellite to various different temperatures.

– Vibration hall – this clean room will be used to put the satellite through various different vibration tests to test its durability during space flight.

– Clean room 1 & 2 will be used as preperation rooms.
