Dornan Strengthens Commitment to Inclusion
Today marks the beginning of National Inclusion Week (NIW). This annual event, held each September, is dedicated to promoting inclusion and fostering more inclusive workplaces. This year, National Inclusion Week will occur from 15th to 21st September, with the theme ‘Now is the Time’.
The theme this year, emphasises the importance of inclusion, urgency, resilience, and the need to keep moving forward – focusing on practical steps that make inclusion sustainable and embedded in the organisations.
At its heart, inclusion is about creating spaces where every person feels welcomed, valued, and empowered to participate fully. It involves recognising and celebrating differences – whether in gender, ability, culture, or background – while actively removing barriers that prevent individuals from thriving. Inclusion means fostering a sense of belonging, where respect and equity are woven into the fabric of daily life, and everyone is encouraged to contribute their unique perspectives and talents. It’s about ensuring that fairness and accessibility are not just ideals, but realities embedded in every aspect of the workplace.
Why National Inclusion Week Matters
NIW is a movement to ensure that workplaces are fair, accessible, and empowering for all. Inclusion means respecting and valuing differences, removing barriers, and nurturing a sense of belonging. Studies consistently show that inclusive workplaces are more innovative, resilient, and successful. By participating in NIW, organisations like Dornan not only demonstrate social responsibility but also cultivate a culture that attracts and retains top talent.
As part of NIW, we are proud to share two important initiatives led by the Women at Dornan (W@D) Network, reflecting our ongoing commitment to building an inclusive and supportive workplace.
Introduction to Free Feminine Hygiene Products
One of our projects has become the first at Dornan to provide free feminine hygiene products for employees. This marks a significant step towards ensuring our sites are accessible and considerate of everyone’s needs.
The initiative was driven by the W@D Network and supported by Riley, a female-founded Irish company recognised for its sustainable products and commitment to period dignity. This programme will be rolled out across all Dornan sites in the near future, reinforcing our dedication to supporting all employees.
Launch of Ally Walks
The W@D Network has also introduced Ally Walks, inviting ally members – those who actively support the network but do not identify as female – to participate in guided walks across our sites and offices.
An Ally Walk is a proactive step taken by allies to evaluate how inclusive and accessible the environment is for everyone. It provides an opportunity to observe, reflect, and take action to ensure our workplaces support all individuals, regardless of gender, ability, or background.
While launching during NIW, Ally Walks will continue as an ongoing initiative providing valuable insights into practical improvements and strengthening collaboration between W@D and its allies.
Looking Ahead
National Inclusion Week 2025 is an opportunity for Dornan to lead by example, reinforcing our belief that inclusion is not just a goal but an ongoing journey. By engaging our people, celebrating differences, and committing to action – though our ‘Ally Walks’ and through the launch of our new Inclusive Site Facilities Guideline – we will continue to transform our workplace into one where everyone feels welcome and valued.
