World Suicide Prevention Day: Breaking the Silence Together at Dornan.

On September 10th, Dornan marked World Suicide Prevention Day with a powerful and moving webinar. This was a moment for us to come together, raise awareness, and confront the mental health challenges that exist within our industry head on.

We were humbled by the courage of two of our colleagues, who chose to share their personal stories with their Dornan colleagues. By opening up, they reminded us that speaking about mental health can break down stigma, encourage others to seek help, and show that no one has to face difficult times alone.

Their willingness to come forward reflects a culture we are working hard to build at Dornan – one where honesty and support are welcomed, and where people feel safe enough to share experiences that may help others.

At Dornan, we are committed to protecting the physical and mental health of our people. We want everyone to know that support is always available. Our Employee Assistance Programme, our network of Mental Health First Aiders, and our partnerships with organisations such as the Lighthouse Charity and Mates in Mind are here to provide confidential help whenever it’s needed.

A key message that resonated throughout the webinar was captured in the words: “Happiness is found in the darkest of times – remember to turn on the light.” This reminder speaks to the importance of hope, seeking help when it’s needed, and supporting one another through difficult moments.

World Suicide Prevention Day is a reminder of the importance of talking openly about mental health and asking the difficult questions that can make a difference. As one of our colleagues said during the webinar: “’It’s good to talk – sometimes that simple step can help more than you realise.”
