The Shah Deniz offshore gas field is the most significant gas field discovered in Azerbaijan in the last 20 years and its estimated reserves are in excess of 500 billion cubic metres. Dornan’s involvement with the BP Shah Deniz Field began in 1998 on the Shelf 5 semi-submersible drilling rig. Dornan completed the onshore electrical, instrumentation and telecommunications installation and provided personnel for the off-shore hook-up and commissioning phase. In 2003, the first phase of the full field development was officially sanctioned with an estimated cost of US$3 billion. Dornan completed the civil, mechanical and electrical upgrade works at the Zykh yard to ensure that the yard was ready to support construction platforms. In January 2005, Dornan was awarded the main electrical and instrumentation contract for the TPG500 platform. This platform is one of the most advanced platforms to be constructed in the world. Once the topside of the rig arrived in Zykh, Dornan commenced the installation of the electrical and instrumentation systems. | |
