Biffa Waste Energy Plant, West Sussex

Dornan was awarded the M&E services on this £1b-plus Biffa project for West Sussex County Council. This energy-from-waste plant has the capacity to process 90,000 tonnes of residual waste a year and produce up to 3.5MW, enough to power 7000 homes. This project also has a facility to manage refuse-derived fuels from other processes, such as mechanical biological treatment. The plant uses anaerobic digestion technology.

Electrical responsibilities included

• CCTV system
• UPS installation

Mechanical responsibilities included

• Heating installation
• Cooling installation
• Ventilation installation
• Rain water harvesting system
